Noly – Domestic Cleaner #HeroesOfTransplantation

1 August 2022

Domestic services staff are the lifeblood of hospitals, keeping them clean and hygienic. Domestics services staff work across all areas, making sure that they are clean and safe places where staff can care for patients while reducing the risk of infection.

Hi, my name is Noly, a domestic cleaner at the Transplantation Unit in Freeman Hospital.

I am happy and proud to be part of the team in making sure that patients who are waiting for organ transplant ( kidneys, lung and heart) and those who are recuperating experience clean and safe environment.

It is important to maintain cleanliness and keep it infection free because the patients are highly susceptible especially those who already went for major surgery to receive a new organ.

I usually strike up a conversation and crack jokes whilst cleaning the rooms. In this small way, I have helped them brighten their day and be hopeful when they feel down with their situation. Because of this, many patients who have been discharged home and even those who came back, can still recognise me or if I’m not around, asked for me.
